SXSW, NXSW, PLANS FOR THIS SITE

Oh, march 2007, how great thou art. You provide the world with beautiful weather, killer shows, spring break, and my birthday. You always provide, and you never let me down. Let’s have a good one.

I’ve got my spring break schedule all lined up, including a stint in both Dallas and Austin, catching both North By Southwest in Dallas and South By Southwest in Austin. I plan on covering all of these shows with photos and mp3s, and hopefully with great detail. I really want this site to excel and grow into much more than a loosely maintained wordpress blog. I’m hoping to begin daily updates with various reoccurring features, mp3s, tour info, etc. I’m also working on a weekly online broadcast or maybe a podcast? I’m messing around with various software that allows decent encoding, so we’ll see how that works out.

Essentially, this site should be kicked into high gear. And it will be.

Back to NXSW/SXSW.

I’m only hitting up two days of NXSW, which is being held at Ellum Onstage in Deep Ellum. Here’s a full list of performers, I’ll only be covering the ones in bold because I’m running out of money:

Wish I could see them all, but I just can’t afford it and I’ve got some standalone shows in Dallas that I must see. These shows:

March 11: Cassavettes at Rubber Gloves; Denton, $5

March 14: Andrew Bird, Cold War Kids, Elvis Perkins, Tokyo Police Club, Delta Spirits at Gypsy Tearoom and Ballroom (both rooms!); Dallas, $16

March 17: Sondre Lerche, Willy Mason, Thomas Dybdahl at Gypsy Tea Room; $12

So, Dallas alone is providing some excellent music for this pre-SXSW week.

The Actual SXSW festivities are a bit vague for me, but I have some showcases that I’m definitely pursuing:

Astralwerks: Small Sins, Sondre Lerche, The Little Ones, Sparklehorse (Thursday at Antone’s)

Kork Agency: Sage Francis, Under Byen, The Octopus Project, Voxtrot (Thursday at Emo’s Main Room)

Brooklyn Vegan: Mew, Brothers & Sisters, and more (Thursday at the Scoot Inn, FREE)

So we’ll see about those. But I’m definitely going to the brooklyn vegan show.

Overall, the next few weeks should be very interesting, and you can expect some excellent, fun-filled posts from the depths of the state that never whispers.
